I thought I would share my journey into making a Chewbacca costume. I bought Skywalker stilts to make me tall enough. I am only 5'7" I used pink foam to make the feet and covered the foam with fiberglass cloth and Elmer glue. It smooths it out and gives me a base to paint. The claws are some type of sign material that I cut to shape and then heated up in the oven to melt them the way that I wanted. I bought mesh and made the pants. I still have to make the shirt. The fur will be done with #27 and #44 Kanekalon synthetic hair. In the pic the hair comes kinky from the package. If you heat it with a hair dryer it will straighten out. I am working on arm extentions so they will preportionate with the legs.

Great stuff! Keep it coming. ;D It'll take a lot of hair to cover the entire body, how will you attach it to the suit? Also, are you to make the belt Chewie wears yourself (the long one drapped over his body)?

I will be latchhooking the hair to the suit. Yes. I am going to make the bandolier myself. It is going to be a challenge but heck the whole costume is.

Here is the foot after paint and fur with the nails. I think I might tone down the light color at the tip of the nails. I also need to brush out and trim the fur.

Looking great so far! As Clarance says... you've got a lot of work ahead of you, and a lot of combing when you go out in it! Will you be wearing it out at parties, etc? ;D

Soooooo How much of this hair is required and how much is a rough estimate of cost? It must be an expensive suit when completed ?

Excellent stuff! You're making some real good progress there! I can't wait to see the belt and mask under construction.
