Remember the scene in Jurassic Park when Muldoon discovers the Raptors had broken free from their Pen? This is a 're-creation' of one of those prints seen scattered around the pen that Muldoon started tracking. I have sculpted it in clay (wet clay) and molded the piece in quick setting water-based alginate. Here are some pics of both the sculpt and a plaster cast. I will start painting it up soon and maybe make a diorama with several prints. ;D

This is so coool dude! So how long does it take to do this? How long did you spend on the sculpting side? Are you going to paint it up sandy kinda colour? You should make permanent puddles in it, so it'd look real indoors too. ;D

It took about 3 hours to create the sculpt, but much longer than that to sort out the dried out clay I had left over from past sculpts and get the moisture back in to make it useable again. ;D
I was thinking of making enough to make a small 1/1 scale diorama outside in the garden. I will be painting them a dark muddy colour, and would probably just let the rain fill them up for extra realisim.
I may make one as an indoor display too, and use clear cast resin to make the water effect. Ferns might be added.

Whoooaaa! ;D You could make an entire Raptor route with these things. If you made them in foam or hollow resin instead of using heavy plaster, it would be cheaper to ship. Might be an idea if you plan to sell these?. ;D
Maybe you could dress it in ferns as well for a perfect finish?

Yeah, I should really make them as light as possible. Foam sounds like a good idea, but I don't know how that would hold up outdoors? Maybe fibreglass would be a better way to go.

If the foam has some kind of skin on the surface, then maybe a varnish job will do the trick to finish it off (after painting)? ;D

I still think glass-fibre will be more durable than foam for this, but I have other prop diorama ideas and layouts I may do in just foam as they're kind of big.
