For many of my ID4 models I will be requiring a stand to display them on, so I have come up with the idea of making a 14" replica of the firing mechanism seen on the underside of the City Destroyers. This will make a nice flat stand and I can insert a steel metal rod through the center.

This is something very rarely seen! I'm a great fan of Independence Day and am sick of the fact there's no forums or websites about it anywhere. I realize it's no cult classic..but it deserves some place for it on the world web. I'd do it myself if I knew how?

Funny you should say that. I have a website on ID4, although it's offline at the moment due to me having to change my hosting package, but I'll get it up and runing again soon. If you go to my forum link below, there should be a banner there linking to the website. But.. as I said, it's offline for now but shouldn't be for much longer.

Will this stand have all the details as seen on the original studio props? I may be interested in one for my ID4 models and toys. I'd like it to look metallic if possible?

I will try to make it as accurate as possible and include lots of detail. I'm not sure what colour I will paint it yet?

Maybe you could do it metallic blue or green? The model ships in the film were painted either grey or brown. I'm not sure, they look so different throughout the film. The one hovering over the desert looked brown/tan.

It probably looked that way due to the lighting of the desert scene, I think the prop was actually grey.

Why not just use the display stand pictured in your main page welcome section near the top?

Why not just use the display stand pictured in your main page welcome section near the top? I had one of those kits, and it's tiny. Both the base and the ship is approx 8 inches.
