Just dug this one out of the cupboard. It's a miniature Titanic boiler model I started years back when I first saw the Titanic movie. It's a scratch built model made to look like it's part of the Titanic's wreckage lying on the seabed.
I have it partly buried in the sediments and standing up on end...just like they're often seen in the documentaries. I did plan on molding it so I could create a cast in resin and iron metal filler, but I don't think that will be neccessary now to get a natural rust effect. I'll just finish it as it is and paint it.

Pictures? I love that movie, so it'll be good to see some Titanic stuff! I guess you'll be making a complete ship next? ;D Or maybe 1/8 scale or something! Knowing you, you'd actually try something like this and more than likely make it happen. I'm excited by many of your threads and will continue to follow them for a long while yet! Keep it up.

I had actually always wanted to do a huge section of the Titanic to something like 1/8 scale as you mention. Just maybe a 1/4 length section showing a few funnels and the hull. I would love to build it onto a temporary wood frame and at an angle so it looks like it's sinking. Lighting and water around the base would be a must for a project like this! All this would only be temporary of course as there's nowhere I could keep something like this, I would probably film it and do lots of pics before either selling or destroying it. I would make it as cheap as possible, maybe make the funnels out of rolled cradboard and the plating panels from molded sections of glassfibre, then sprayed black. Here're some pics you requested. As you can see below, I have started the boiler already (10 years back in fact) and will be casting it in resin mixed with a metal compound such as iron filler to get the natural rust effect kicking in. I love this reaction when I place my castings in water and doesn't take long to get results. As you can see from the black dots down the side of the boiler, I have many rivets to make and need some ideas on creating 1mm rivet heads in fairly short time. Any ideas?

That looks so accurate to the real boliers! Good job. How much will it cost to do a 1/8 Titanic? And where would you build it? You'd have to have a pretty bif backyard to do this, unless you can rent a garage somewhere? If you ever start this, shoot me an email, I don't want to miss it!

I have no idea of the cost, but I wouldn't even attempt it at this stage (if I even did one). I would have to have my own unit somewhere to do something of this scale.
I do actually plan to hire a unit hopefully next year for my dinosaur sculpting. I'd like to do full-scale animatronics with foam rubber skins. ;D
I have started many JP dinosaur maquettes and plan to scale these up to create the 1/1 dinos. I'm sure this would be very pricey in just the foams skins alone!

Full scale dinos! Are you making your own Jurassic Park? How many dinosaurs are you going to do (how many of each type I mean)? You could have say, five Raptors hunting a Triceratops. How about a heard of Triceratops? Maybe use the same mold to do them all and just paint them slightly different so they don't look too much the same.

What dinosaurs are you doing fullsized? The Brachiosaurus would be absolutely fantastic if this could be done. I've only seen full sized necks of these dinos so far in parks. ;D A T-rex would be one of the best of course, and a Triceratops. How will you get these to move along the ground? I'm assuming you want a lot of motion or will they just be static with maybe limbs and head movements?
