Did you do the cane from wood dowel? I thought about using the red 'white metal' casting silicone rubber seeing as I have a small pot of it about to turn bad. I had better use that up for something fast, so I'll do another one or two egg moulds with it, and see how that reacts to the resin. Are you able to post pictures of your work?

I believe you are talking to me? No I did it with a length of old broomstick my neighbor uses to stir his liquid feed for his plants still he has plenty of bamboos around to stir with!! I have had a play today and sanded the cane and primer ed it I took a pic before I primer ed and after pretty boring stuff I think I have got this attach thingy right?I have tried various things to stop the disc things but am still getting them checked with East coast fiberglass and they are adamant that RTV and clear resin don't get on together I might resort to a F/G mould. Right I'm off to capture some crane flies Be Well Be Safe Attachments:

That's great work! How did you do all that so fast? That looks like a real nice quality length of wood you've got there too. What tools did you use to do that, especially with cutting the notches? If you mean those annoying reflective oval discs within the amber egg, try using less catalyst in your clear resin. I haven't had this problem since I started measuring out the very minimum amount of catalyst required to cure the resin. I'm using 2% of catalyst to resin. It's funny, when I don't need a cranefly, they're everywhere, then when I do need one for my egg, I can't find a darn single one (at least not the smaller size that I need). Still, my mosquitoes should hopefully arrive next week, so it might not matter anymore. ;D

Thanks I used a small wood lathe I have in the garage the joints are done with a corner of the chisel then sand .I leave it on the lathe high speed and spray primer on cant get runs when it s travelling at over 1200 rpm dries quick as well.I'll try less catalyst but I dont measure anything I just pour a capfull or half or whatever. I found this pic onmy hard drive I made it in 2000 there wasnt any plans in those days so it isn't screen accurate welllllllllll niether am I Attachments:

Yeah, I just tried to attach more than one image at a time too, it doesn't seem to allow for multiple attachments. If you need to attach lots of images to a single post, couldn't you use an account with Photobucket or a similar free hosting service? Uploading directly from your PC is the easiest way for single images, but for multiple image uploads I just use the 'Insert Image' icon and link to them directly on my own web hosting space. Love the Dalek! Awesome job. I'm no Dr Who expert, but it does look pretty accurate to me. What is it made from? I used to just guess the catalyst amount by pouring some into the cap, and does work ok for some things, but for doing something as precise and delicate as this, the amount really does need to be spot on. I measured mine out by volume instead of weight (by weight is instructed on tin) which still seems to work ok. I used a measuring beaker to see how much resin is required, which is 60ml in this case for an average sized chicken egg. Then, divided that into two lots of 30ml to allow for two pours (either side of bug) and used a measuring syringe to get my 2% catalyst. Your amber egg looks so well polished. Good job!

Hi! The Dalek was made from MDF,hardboard and fibreglass it was 78" high the second one was 72" tall made the same way. I havent got the patience to measure things but You are right if you want a good job take your time thats why I'll never excel at anything I'm a Bodger.Takes a while to shine those little Buggers but I persevere,I have a lot of Srargate stuff helmets etc. I have made as I love that seriesand when I am interested in something it seems easier. All I need is a decent egg or two and I can file this project.

Do you still have your Stargate stuff? I may create a board for the purpose of members to show off their collections. Are you up for that with your stuff? Let me know and I'll put a special board together that you can create your own collections thread in!

I have also had a crack at those rock thingies you are interested in not quite finished but they look OK to me anyoooo Attachments:

This is another passion of mine I belong to a mining family and I made this to remember my Father. The tub is a rebuilt 1920's original from a pit called the Nack(several disasters happened there hence the name) long gone now I worked there as a boy The horse was a Zebra I got from Devon I made all the harness and the Shafts (limmers) It was a big job and took a long time it is symbolic as it is pulling the tub away from the ruined pit where I live This was the scene of a terrible tragedy in the 19 century 105 men and boys perished there the youngest was Ten years old. Those are great looking Jaffa Serpent Helmets! ;D I will put together a collections board asap, and then you can add everything you have there (your own personal prop museum)! I look forward to seeing your JP amber rock too. 105 people died! That is a terrible tragedy. You did a great job though on your display. It looks huge!
