Does anyone know how they make it look like a hat is shot off of someone in the movies? I am needing to make this happen and don't know what mechanism they are using?

Hi,
One cheap way to do it is to have a very thin fishing line attached and the hat pull off quickly by someone off camera. It wouldn't take care of the squib though. I'm not in the business so I can't answer the question professionally...
